For the FieldTask Mobile App to work properly, some permissions need to be enabled on the technician's device. These permissions allow FieldTask to provide important features such as job site navigation, route optimization, live location, faster dispatching, job notifications, photo documentation and others.

Here's what each permission does and how it helps you in the field.

Background Location Access

Background location access allows FieldTask to keep tracking your location while you're working on an active job, even when the app isn't constantly open on your screen.

Notifications

Notifications keep you informed about important job activity without requiring you to constantly check the app.

This allows your team to dispatch jobs quickly and helps you respond to new assignments without delays.

Location Access

Location access powers several FieldTask features designed to make your workday easier.

Location information can also help your organization plan jobs and optimize technician routes, reducing unnecessary travel between appointments.

Physical Activity

Physical activity access helps FieldTask understand movement and activity while you're working.

This can help the app provide more accurate job and activity tracking, making it easier to distinguish normal work activity from periods when you're not actively moving between jobs.

Background Location Data Collection — “Allow All Time”

On supported devices, need to select “Allow All Time” for location access.

This allows FieldTask to continue providing location-based features when the app is running in the background. That means you can focus on the job instead of keeping the FieldTask app open on your screen.

It supports features such as live location, route tracking, job-site navigation, and location-based job tracking.

Camera

Camera access allows you to take photos directly from the FieldTask Mobile App.

This means you don't need to switch between multiple apps to capture and submit job photos.

Microphone

Microphone access allows you to record audio when your organization uses audio as part of job documentation.

This can be useful when a technician needs to quickly record information about a job instead of typing everything manually.

Your Privacy Matters

FieldTask uses these permissions to support your work—not to continuously monitor your personal activities.

Location tracking is tied to your active job. It starts when you check in and stops as soon as you check out. Once you've checked out, FieldTask no longer needs to track your location for that job.

This gives technicians the benefits of live location, navigation, route optimization, and accurate job tracking while they're working, while helping keep their personal time and privacy separate from their work.
